Jaguar Heritage is about to announce the full programme of events for next year’s 50 anniversary E-type celebrations.
What we can tell you is that it will involve a commemorative 50-car run to Geneva at the end of February, starting from Coventry, going via Rheims, and ending with a cavalcade at the Geneva motor show.
There will also be a special race series open to pre-’66 appendix K cars, to be held at the Nürburgring, Oulton Park, Brands, Silverstone and, hopefully, Goodwood.
A major celebratory weekend event is also planned somewhere in the UK, although the venue has not yet been finalised.
All the events are being organised with the full support of Jaguar Cars Ltd and the final details will be advertised in the next few weeks, so watch this space!

| The hill’s alive with the sound of E-Types
More than 160 cars poured through the gates of Prescott Hill Climb for this year’s E Type Day on 6 June – well up on last year, possibly thanks to a better weather forecast. The ‘hill’ was as popular as ever, with a guest appearance from the Porsche 914 club at lunchtime. Veteran racer and JDC founder member Albert Powell was on hand to give out the prizes, alongside one his famous Mark 2s, and Norman Dewis was back for a very welcome return visit.
It was an all-roadster affair in the concours, with Tony Johnson’s 4.2 Series 1 taking the Intermediate Class and Graham Blake winning the Premier Class with his lovely red 3.8. Kevin O’Sullivan’s black S3 came second, but also won the Endeavour Prize for the magnificent restoration work he has done on the car over the past three or four years. Top prize and Car of The Day went to Michael Birtwistle and son Matt, whose S3 won the Royal Brierley Trophy and the chance to compete at Champion of Champions at NEC in November. For a full report on the day’s events and the winning cars, see the July issue of Jaguar Driver.

[ image disabled ] | Goodwood Track Day 2010
When it comes to track days venues, nothing beats Goodwood, which is why the E Type Register was back there this year on the May bank holiday. Star turn, as usual, was historic racing’s most flamboyant character, Grant Williams, in BUY 1. Grant’s unique, and sometimes scary, driving style has earned him a string of laurels at Goodwood and the good news is that BUY 1 will be at the Revival in September.
Every slot on the grid was taken for track day, with several last-minute hopefuls turning up, cash in hand, to grab the last few places. There were relatively few breakdowns this year, although John Burton was seen peering under the odd bonnet. There was also an “Och, b*!**@!s, that’s diesel!” moment (in Scottish, I should add – no names), but suffice it to say, the unfortunate Jaguar made it home after having its stomach pumped.
Turn-out of E-types was strong, including track day faithful Sean Morvan’s lovely green fixed-head, which he brought over from Jersey with son Andrew. Rikki Bidelieux brought his nicely tweaked S1 and there was a good selection of other cars, including Tim Barnes’ home-built XKSS replica and Jack White – another track day regular – in his gold Mark 2.
Dinner the night before at the Chichester Park Hotel was popular, as usual, giving members coming from far afield a chance to relax and rest before the big event. Watch the website and Jaguar Driver for next year’s date, when we will be marking the 50th anniversary of the E-type.
