I purchased a FHC 4.2 series 1 Etype about 12 months ago from a dealer in Adelaide. He assured me it was a genuine one owner car from California with no rust. He said an older couple drove it in San Francisco and his words qoute"drove it until the tyres went bald and then parked it indoors and never drove it again" 79000 genuine miles. Well we know it has no rust as it is now in many pieces being restored but know little else. I am including a few nos. incase anyone can shed any light on this car. Engine no 7E 1090-9 Gear box EJ149 Body 30025 Vin 4E20066 It is off white/cream in colour with red interior.I have found a good supplier of parts in Australia but if anyone can give me any information on a full trim kit ie where to get one, price etc either in Australia or sent from overseas
I would appreciate it. I was going to get an upholsterer but heard the kits were very good. Any suggestions Thanks

Craig, Sorry but I cannot find your car on our database. 79000 miles on one set of tyres is amazing! However, some of the numbers you give look wrong. By VIN, I presume you refer to the Chassis Number which should be in the range 1E30001 - 1E34249 for a Series 1 FHC 4.2 LHD. I presume your car was made between 1964 and 1967. These numbers can be hard to read but please check it and get back to us.

There is an excellent site in USA, XKE Lovers which has a lot of USA cars on it but again, I cannot find your numbers.

As regards interior Trim, I have used a company BAS International in the UK and they have an Australian outlet at
BAS Australia
8, 3 Dunlop Court,
Bayswater 3153,
Melbourne,
Australia.
Tel. (+61)03 9738 1099
Fax. (+61)03 9738 0600
e-mail. aus©bas-international.com

I hope this helps, but do get back to us regarding the VIN/Chassis Number.

Craig,

OK, Numbers are in line with a chassis number 1E30025, a LHD FHC manufactured in 1964 (or just possibly 1965). Engine numbers and gearbox numbers are also in line with this. There is no exact science in relating these numbers since all numbers did not increment in line for each car. (i.e. engine number did not increase by one when chassis number increased by one, etc and cars were not manufactured exactly in chassis number sequence). For a more accurate confirmation, you could contact Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust who have the original manufacturing records but are likely to charge for their information.

If you need any more information from me, or if I have missed part of your question, don't hesitate to get back to me.

Regards,

David
